Visual Arts for the Classroom (VAC) units
These Visual Arts for the Classroom (VAC) units are designed to help secondary-level students develop skills and understanding in 2D and 3D processes, as well as digital media and development education. Each unit has specific guidelines and focuses on relevant materials and skills. The goal is to improve learners' literacy and numeracy through art and design.
a. The Visual Arts for the Classroom - 3D Studies (VAC) Print/Construction and b. Ceramics, as well as c. 2D Studies (VAC) Drawing and Painting, are designed based on the following learning outcomes. Each VAC unit has its own specific guidelines and brief that focuses on the materials and skills relevant to that particular unit. The goal of each unit is to help secondary-level students develop a sufficient understanding of 2D and 3D processes and skill application, providing them with a learning platform. d. The Visual Arts for the Classroom - Digital Media VAC unit aims to equip students with the technical knowledge and confidence required to utilize various digital media resources, including hardware and software, enabling them to implement lessons that effectively leverage digital technology in the classroom. e. The Visual Arts for the Classroom - Development Education and Citizenship unit empowers students to explore themes related to citizenship, equality, justice, and other similar themes derived from development education within the art room's specific context. In each unit, students will learn strategies to improve learners' literacy and numeracy capacities through art and design.
Reflection:
I have found the VAC units to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The hands-on approach of the 3D Studies (Print and Ceramics) and 2D Studies VACs in Drawing and Painting have helped me to better understand skills and processes in each domain. I appreciate that each VAC has specific guidelines and briefs, tailored to the materials and skills of that VAC.

The VAC units encourage critical thinking and problem-solving and have allowed me to express my emotions and ideas through different mediums. The Digital Media VAC unit has equipped me with technical knowledge and confidence in the use of digital media resources. The Development Education and Citizenship VAC unit has enabled me to address issues of citizenship, equality, and justice in the context of the art room.
Overall, the VAC units have enhanced my artistic skills and developed my critical thinking abilities.
Painting techniques include oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor painting, and pastel painting. Each technique has its own unique approach, tools, and materials. Choosing a painting technique depends on the desired result and personal preference. Experimentation is encouraged to discover which technique suits one's artistic style best.
ceramic techniques include pinch pot, coil building, slab building, underglaze painting, overglaze painting, and sgraffito. Each technique involves different methods of shaping and decorating clay to create functional or decorative objects. Choosing a ceramic technique depends on the desired result and personal preference. Experimentation is encouraged to discover which technique suits one's artistic style best.
Lino printing is a relief printing technique where a design is carved into a linoleum block and printed onto paper or fabric. The carving tools are used to create a raised design that is inked and transferred onto the surface. Lino printing is a versatile and accessible printing method that can be used to create a range of designs, from simple shapes to intricate patterns. Experimentation with different inks, paper, and carving techniques can lead to unique and beautiful results.
